The tower was build by the Asinelli family between 1109 and 1110 and today is the symbol of Bologna. It’s located on the entrance of the city on the ancient Via Emilia; is 97.6 meters high and to reach the top you have to climb the 498 steps on the inside. The whole way up, on the small wooden squeaking staircase, is as fascinating as tiring. The inside of the tower maintained its original structure and few small windows here and there offer a preview of the final landscape. Torre degli Asinelli is the tallest in Bologna and offers a breathtaking view of the whole city characterized by its red bricks and the surrounding hills. You might arrive on the top a little sweaty and tired, but is 100% worth it.
